Writing an Audio CD on the Fly

Writing on the Fly with CD-Rchive requires that all the settings detailed in the preceding pages for Extracting Audio from CDs and Writing an Audio CD be present.

NB.
The Seperate File / Track checkbox will have no effect, but will be ignored so don't bother unchecking it.

Once you have chosen your settings, ensure a blank CD is in your selected device and the Dummy checkbox on the Advanced tab page is set.

IMPORTANT

As per the Audio Overview page, this setting will copy the CD into a single track on the target CD.

If you require individual tracks, use the 2 stage approach.

Programs like Easy CD Creator under Windows have a Copy CD operation.

They do not record piped output on the fly, they recursively grab and record tracks until the contents of the Source are copied. Being Windows, the user is not informed of exactly what is happening and it appears it is a one step process.

I have not provided a similar function in CD-Rchive, since it offers no time saving benefits over the 2 stage process.

It is just a track number stage process with a final fixation of the disc at the end.

The only advantage would be that it only required hard drive space for the size of the largest track. Given the size and cost of modern hard drives, I didn't consider that a valid factor nowadays.

Switch to the Ops tab page

Click on the [Audio CD on Fly] button.

You will be given a last chance to cancel the operation.

Click on the [Audio CD on Fly] button again

The help browser window will be overlaid with one showing the output from cdda2wav and cdrecord.

Pay particular attention to the output to check if it will all fit to disc and the operation suceeds.

If there are problems, adjust the settings or the Start / End track specification and try another dummy run.

When all is OK, uncheck the Dummy checkbox on the Advanced tab page and write for real.

When the operation is complete a click on [Home] will restore the help browser.

General:-
If you find that you need to abort the operation, click [Cancel Operation].
Please note that it does not guarantee a clean end to the operation. It kills the child process running the operation and attempts to reset the SCSI bus. Aborting during a write operation is liable to leave the CDR inaccesable and of use only as a coaster!
